How to Copy Selected Content in Photoshop

Adobe Photoshop offers multiple ways to copy/paste content in the same or any other document. In the recent versions, Copy command works to copy entire layer/layer group. However, sometimes you will want to copy only one part of the layer or image what is possible using selection and Copy command. To copy only selected content can be sometimes tricky in case that you are not familiar how copy works with selection and what is the difference between Copy and Copy Merged.


In this tutorial, I will explain to you how to successfully copy to the clipboard only custom selected area in Adobe Photoshop.

How Copy command works with and without selection active As already mentioned, Copy command works just fine to copy any layer or layer group. Select the layer/layer group in the Layers panel then copy them to the clipboard using Edit > Copy or Ctrl/Cmd + C keyboard shortcut. How to Easily Revert to Old Free Transform Behavior in Photoshop

Transform proportionally by default for some type (most types) of layers is introduced in Photoshop 20.0 release. Along the way, engineers have provided a way to revert to legacy or old behavior where Shift key needed to scale proportionally. The offered solution is not complicated nor pleasant for some users so guys from Adobe decided to introduce a new option in Preferences for easy reverting or preventing proportional transformation by default.

In this post, I want to inform you about a new option in Preferences dialog which you can use to prevent proportional transformation or scaling by default when using Free Transform in Photoshop 20.0.5 and later release.

Why and how to use New Window command Command New Window for [document name] is located under Window > Arrange sub-menu. This command will create a new window by cloning the existing one and divide/split document window into half. The first document window on the left side will display [:1] as an addition at the end of the document name in the document tab title bar.
