Reset Preferences to Solve the Problem With Strange Photoshop Behavior

There are tons of threads on Adobe forums with a single solution: reset preferences. Whenever Photoshop start with strange behavior the very first thing to try is to reset preferences before asking for help online. Here are some example problems which are solved by resetting preferences:

Option-Drag to duplicate layer effect now switches documents
Problem with tiny thumbnails for texture and patterns
Missing panel on right
Help some text disappear

How to reset preferences in Photoshop

There are a couple of ways to do the same job or to reset preferences. There isn't the best way, any of the methods will work just fine. Here is the list with an explanation:

Method 1  Keyboard shortcut while starting Photoshop. You can hold down all modifiers (Ctrl/Cmd + Alt/Opt + Shift) while clicking on Photoshop icon to launch it.

Method 2  Search for and delete .psp file. Preferences file is located on Mac: Users/[user name]/Library/Preferences/ Adobe Photoshop [version] Settings, on Windows 10: C:\Users\User name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC 2019\Adobe Photoshop CC 2019 Settings. For more info please visit official page where you can find paths for other Operating system versions.

Method 3  Check Reset Preferences On Quit from Preferences > General. The third method which I will present is to use a built-in function which is available from the Preferences > General section. Click on Reset Preferences On Quit, confirm then relaunch Photoshop.

Another method to reset preferences is to open Preferences > General dialog. Click on Reset Preferences On Quit the confirm on OK twice to save and exit. Relaunch Photoshop and your general or user preferences will be reset.
