Legacy (Old Style) New Document Interface in Photoshop CC 2017
New Document dialog in Photoshop CC 2017 is great and improved with stock templates to jump start any project. There aren't many reasons to use an old style or legacy new document dialog. However, it is still available to you in case you are missing it. It is a matter of changing one option in Preferences dialog to see old style interface.
How to switch to: Legacy "New Document" InterfaceSwitching option is available from Edit > Preferences > General (Ctrl/Cmd + K) > Use Legacy "New Document" Interface. Check this option and click OK button in the top right corner of the Preferences dialog. That's it, no application restart is required and you can start using old style new document dialog right away.
What is the advantage of legacy new document you may ask?There are two things which may be desired for your workflow or embedded in the set of your habits:
- Quickly and easily create a new document based on any already open document in Photoshop. Click on Document Type: drop down the list and choose the name of the open document. Photoshop will create a new document based on chosen document: dimensions, resolution, color mode...
- Options to choose Transparent or Other from Background Contents: drop-down list to start with a transparent background or background color of your choice.
Now comes disadvantages
- The main disadvantage is in modern and grouped presets in the tabbed interface with live preview.
- Do not forget and free, high-quality templates from Adobe Stock to jump start your new project.
