Free Grid Effect Photoshop Action

Image
Today I have to share free sample from Grid Effect Photoshop actions. Provided action can be used in Photoshop CS6 - CC 2017 (and any later version).

About Grid Effect Photoshop ActionAction is recorded to allow user to quickly create grid effect in a few seconds. Action will cut out 24 square pieces from your image which should be landscape orientation with 3x2 aspect ratio. Dimensions of your image are not important, action is dimensions and resolution independent (it simply works). By default all cut out pieces will be created on separate layers, colorized with Color Overlay that you can easily modify or remove. At the end of action you have a dialog to choose the stroke width and color. Stroke is used to separate cut out pieces.

Video instructionsHere are step by step instructions with customization tips on how to use Grid Effect action for Adobe Photoshop.

How to Assign Multiple Fills and Strokes in Illustrator

Image
One of the most important panels in Adobe Illustrator is Window > Appearance panel. One of the benefits of Appearance panel is that multiple fills and strokes can be assigned to the same object. Appearance panel actually works as a layers panel for object attributes. Besides assigning multiple fills and strokes there are and dynamic effects which can be applied to each individual stroke and fill attribute.

Why use appearance panel The simplest answer is: because you are not limited to single fill and stroke applied to the object. Amazing artworks can be created using single path when combining multiple fills and strokes with dynamic effects and blending modes.

How to apply multiple fills and strokes to the same object Here are two steps to add new fill/stroke:

The very first step is to select object using Selection Tool (V) to which you want to apply new fill or strokeIn the Appearance panel (Window > Appearance) click on Add New Fill or Add New Stroke icon in the lower left cor…

Cropping Images in Illustrator CC 2017 (and Later)

Image
Starting with April 2017 update for Illustrator CC 2017 we have the ability to crop linked and embedded images.

How to crop an image in Illustrator CC 2017 Before we proceed I want to mention a couple of things to bear in mind:

You can not recover cropped portion which will be permanently discarded (you can still use Undo, of course). When working with linked images Illustrator will prompt you to embed image after cropping it so linked file will remain unaffected with crop done in Illustrator.
Steps to crop an image Typically you will use File > Place command to place an image in Illustrator document. Everything works exactly the same if you drag the image into Illustrator document or when placing images from Libraries panel.

Select the image using Selection tool (V) then use one of the following options which work only with one image selected:Right click and choose: Crop ImageClick on Crop Image button in the Control panelGo to Object > Crop Image Resize crop box using widget corn…
