Create Pixel Perfect Artwork for the Web in Illustrator CC 2017

Image
Starting with November 2016 update for Illustrator CC 2017 we have a couple of improvements to draw pixel perfect artwork for the web applications. Why you should align objects to pixel grid when designing for the web The very first question you may have is: why to align objects to pixel grid? The simplest answer is: because you want crisp and sharp edges without anti-aliasing applied. This is desired in most cases and keep in mind that curved objects and round corners must have anti-aliasing applied. It is not the fault of Illustrator or web browser and user's device but rather the fault of technology that we are using and its limitations. Nothing is perfect, believe it or not! You can read more about anti-aliasing and how it works in my post: Anti-aliasing in Photoshop . That's why anti-aliasing must be applied and how it works on any device. How to align objects to pixel grid in Illustrator CC 2017 There are a couple of different situations and options to

Import and Paste Assets in Adobe Xd from Illustrator and Photoshop

Image
In this tutorial, I will cover how to use copy/paste method and Import command to import assets from Photoshop and Illustrator in Adobe Experience Design (Xd) . Copy/paste method to import assets The very first and very popular option is to copy asset and to paste it in Adobe Xd . In Photoshop you can create a selection then to use Copy or Copy Merged command . After copying the selection to the clipboard switch to Adobe Xd and simply paste it using right-click > paste or Ctrl/Cmd + V keyboard shortcut. In Illustrator select object ( vector shape ) that you want to import then copy it using Edit > Copy ( Ctrl/Cmd + C ). Switch to Adobe Xd and paste object ( Ctrl/Cmd + V ) which will be pasted as SVG in case it is vector object. It is also possible to copy raster or pixel based image. And yes, the object will keep properties like stroke and gradient: linear or radial. Import assets using Import command Another solution is to save files as SVG ,

Pathfinder Panel in Illustrator - What Each of Commands Can Do for You - Part 2

Image
In this tutorial, I will provide you more information about compound paths and compound shapes using Pathfinder panel ( Window > Pathfinder ). We will continue where we stopped in the previous tutorial: Pathfinder panel in Illustrator - what each of commands can do for you . Compound paths and shapes in Illustrator can be used to cut a hole in another object or to build complex shapes with additional flexibility to modify them at any time. What is the difference between compound paths and compound shapes Compound paths can be used to cut a hole in another object. You can draw two shapes (objects) and then use one shape/object to cut a hole in another shape (object). You can create a compound path by clicking on some of the icons in the Pathfinder panel. Compound shapes differ from compound paths because they allow you to build complex objects (shapes) and to specify how one object interacts with another object. You can create a compound shape by holding Alt/Opt key

How to Create Child Master Pages in Adobe InDesign

Image
Most of the time we are using a couple of  master pages in Adobe InDesign . Master pages can be applied to any page in the document and all elements or objects placed on the master will be applied to regular pages in the document. In larger documents chances are that you want to use several master pages or variations of parent master page. One of the lesser known features is the ability to create child master pages based on parent master page. Elements or objects from parent master page will be automatically applied to child master pages with the ability to override them on child master pages. Steps to create child master page I will assume that you already know how to create a master page in InDesign . To create child master page do the following: Click on Pages panel menu and choose New Master . Alternatively, you can right-click and to choose same option. In the New Master dialog expand Based on Master : drop-down list and choose existing master page which you want
