How to Prevent Hyphenation For Certain Word in InDesign

Image
There are times when you want hyphenation, but you do not want some specific words to be hyphenated like your name, company name or anything else. It is possible to manage specific words to not be hyphenated in InDesign in a couple of different ways. In this post I will give you a tip how to use hyphenation in your document, but to prevent it for particular words using custom dictionary.

Exclude certain word from hyphenation in Adobe InDesignAs already mentioned there are a couple of ways to do the exact same thing. I will instruct you how to use custom dictionary to avoid manual work, but there are times when the custom dictionary won't work: when you have a colon (:) or greater than sign (>), for example, in front of the word for which you want to skip hyphenation. In that case you must use Character Style Options dialog to create a character style with No Break turned on.

Note: you must highlight (select) word before applying the style with No Break, otherwise your text will …

Working With Images in Acrobat DC

Image
Adobe Acrobat DC is certainly the most powerful tool to work with PDF files. I am very thankful for many options which offers this guy including the option to Export PDF To Any File Format From Adobe Acrobat DC. In this post I want to highlight various options to work with images: to edit image in Photoshop, to add new image(s), to crop placed image(s), to replace already placed image(s) and to export single or all images from PDF file.

Edit PDF Most operations that are connected with images are available when you click on Edit PDF in the right sidebar or from: Edit > Edit Text & Images. Another option is to right + click anywhere in the open document with Selection tool for text and images active and to choose: Edit Text & Images.

Place image in PDF document When you enter edit mode by clicking on Edit PDF in the right sidebar you will see Add Image in the toolbar at the top of current viewed page. The same option is also available on right + click on the page in normal mo…

Shaper Tool in Illustrator CC 2015

Image
Shaper tool is a new tool which automatically recognizes gestures and converts freeform drawings or natural gestures into vector shapes. With this tool users can save time and reduce the amount of clicks. In other words the Shaper tool can help you to create simple shapes and then to combine them into complex shapes.

Supported gestures Here are gestures which are currently supported in Illustrator CC 2015, November release.

How Shaper tool works The Shaper tool works with a mouse, but also and with Microsoft Surface. It also works and with Wacom tablets. You need to activate the Shaper Tool (Shift + N) and to start drawing using natural gestures. Illustrator will automatically recognize shape that you are trying to draw and convert gestures into live vector shape with smooth and crisp lines.

Once you have a couple of shapes drawn you can start combining them into more complex shapes. Using the mouse or finger you can scribble on an area that you want to merge, delete or punch out. The…

Customizable Toolbar in Photoshop CC 2015

Image
In the latest release of Photoshop CC (version 16.1November 2015) we have plenty of new and enhanced features. I will cover the basics of custom toolbar and give you some advices on how to use it most effectively.

What is customizable toolbar and how to not use it as a beginner In short, you can change which tools are visible in the toolbar, to change their order and even a keyboard shortcut to activate the tool. Great, we can assign any shortcut to any tool! Lovely, I will change all shortcuts because I cannot remember them anyway! Take it easy for now, especially if you are new to Photoshop and you are still learning. Most of the time you will find default keyboard shortcuts in the tutorial body. If you change all shortcuts then you cannot simply press a letter on your keyboard to activate the tool. Usually you will be presented with the name of the tool, but not and its icon. If you haven't learned icons and you have changed the shortcuts then you may be in trouble to find a…

How to Use Advantage of Layered Files in Adobe InDesign

Image
In this post I will give you some tips on how to use the advantage of layers and Object Layer Options command in InDesign. In particular, I will cover Photoshop's .psd files and Illustrator's .ai file format.

What can do Object Layer Options command This command is available from Object > Object Layer Options menu. You need an object selected in order to use this command. Object that I am talking about in this case is either placed PSD or AI file with layers. You can show or hide layers independently of a native application. In addition, you can use the advantage of Photoshop's Layer Comps what is mostly useful when you have a couple of different versions of the same composition. For the matter of fact, you do not need to create any composition or to have different versions. Layer Comp can be created for any purpose, including to save your time and to have many or all assets in one single file. That's up to you.

Use Object Layer Options with PSD or AI layered file …
