How to Create Torn Photo Template in Photoshop

Image
In this tutorial I will explain you process and describe the steps to create a torn photo effect. The goal of this tutorial is to create re-usable PSD template where you can easily change (swap) photo and optionally background image.

Process in creating a torn photo template We will take easiest and most accurate approach where nobody can make huge mistakes regardless of the level of experience and knowledge about compositions. In essence, we want to create realistic, layered composition. For this task we will need lots of information or good amount of experience and observation. Why to not take easiest approach and capture real world scene from where we can pick up necessary information's and recreate realistic effect. In order effect to be realistic, we will need information about distortions and shadow/highlights what is easy to pick up from a captured photo with a scene that we want to create.

Assets For the assets I will provide you with a link to download capture of a scene

A major update for Topaz ReMask is out with some significant improvements. This fantastic plugin is now fully functional as a standalone application and can be used as Lightroom plugin to create stunning composite images without to use the help of Adobe Photoshop and its layering capabilities. Performance is also boosted and I am suggesting to all existing customers to upgrade their current version (upgrades are free for existing customers for all Topaz products). For those who want to try ReMask here is the download link and coupon code GetReMask5 for $20 off: $49.99 (regularly $69.99). The coupon code is valid from August 25th – September 18th.

What's new in Topaz ReMask 5 The major news is that this application can work as standalone, big boost in speed and that users can place and adjust the background image for easy compositing without to leave Topaz ReMask. Save Selection in Another Document in Photoshop

Image
I have already presented quick and cool tip on how to manually move selection from one document to another in Photoshop. Today I will present you even cooler, faster and easier tip for the same job. Photoshop has ability to save the active selection in any open document, don't you know? There is also option and to create a new document using active selection, just to inform you about and just in case. And there is one small limitation: document dimensions must match.

Steps to save the active selection in any open document You can save (move) selection in any open document, regardless of the color mode and bit depth with requirement that both documents have the same dimensions in pixels. Resolution, usually px/in does not play any role, only dimensions must match.

Step 1 Create selection
Selection in Photoshop can be created in many different ways and I will skip that part. Note: selection must be active or loaded, not necessarily and visible. You can press Ctrl/Cmd + H to hide mar…

Compositions Using Photoshop and Filter Forge (2)

Image
In the previous post we have created our composition using only one Filter Forge filter to generate floor texture and some Photoshop capabilities for other elements. This time we will use several Filter Forge filters for each component in the composition.

What are Filter Forge filters, anyway? I want to start my step by step guide by demystifying word filter in the world of Filter Forge. Usually people think about noise reduction, blur and some special effects when word filter is mentioned. Filter Forge filters are, indeed, all above mentioned with one small difference: filters are usually a combination of many individual, Photoshop alike filters combined to generate output for which in Photoshop user needs good amount of knowledge, to experiment and some more (like textures which does not ship with the application). Here are some of my tutorials which can help you to further understand what I am talking about.

Basically, in the world of Filter Forge, filters can be: wood texture, re…
