Custom Keyboard Shortcuts in Photoshop CC 2015
Custom keyboard shortcuts is not a new feature in Photoshop CC 2015, but it is a hot topic in my opinion. Photoshop has more and more features and some traditional options are changing pros better. We all have our favorite features and frequently used commands which does not have, necessarily default keyboard shortcuts assigned. No worries here, we can remap or to assign new, custom keyboard shortcuts which are an excellent way to speed up our workflow and make things better, faster and easier.
Where is my Save for WebOne of the hottest questions among Photoshop users is: where has gone Save for Web command. It is still present in Photoshop CC 2015 from File > Export > Save for Web (Legacy)...
Photoshop team is modernizing this option for the job of optimizing images for web pages and here are more information from the first hand: Save for Web in Photoshop CC 2015. A replacement for this command are: Quick Export as [format] and Export as...
Personally, I have remapped Save for Web default shortcut to Quick Export as... command. You can do the same or to assign some other shortcut which is easy to remember.
How to assign custom keyboard shortcutYou can assign your own, custom keyboard shortcut by visiting Edit > Keyboard Shortcuts menu or by pressing Alt/Opt + Shift + Ctrl/Cmd + K.
In the Keyboard Shortcuts and Menus dialog you have short instructions at the bottom of the dialog. Always look for and make your habit to use built in helpers which can save your time and few searches.
Things are simple: expand menu, find command and then click on Shortcut field. Press on your keyboard shortcut which you want to assign and confirm on Accept button.
In case keyboard shortcut is already assigned you will see the yellow warning sign and explanation at the bottom of the dialog.
Save changes or a new setOnce you are done assigning custom keyboard shortcuts there are two saving options:
- Save all changes to the current set of shortcuts
- Create a new set based on the current set of shortcuts
The other options are to revert shortcut to the default: Use Default button, to Undo, to assign second shortcut - ha! You can have more than one shortcut assigned to the command (Add Shortcut) or to Delete Shortcut using button with the same name. You have also option to export keyboard shortcuts using Summarize button.
Change set of keyboard shortcutsYou can always change which set of keyboard shortcuts is in use from Set: drop-down list.
My favorite custom keyboard shortcutsHere are some ideas which combinations to use for custom keyboard shortcuts: Ctrl + Shift + Q, Ctrl + Shift + W, Ctrl + Shift + A. Usually you will look to assign shortcut which is easy to remember and to press using only one hand.
