How To Learn and Master Adobe Photoshop

Image
Some Photoshop users have a problem with the best image editing program. I hear from some of them that program is overwhelming with its features and options. Others think that not everything is possible and learning curve is too long. The truth is that you can do whatever comes to your mind or whatever you can imagine and that Photoshop can be defined as most user friendly and over optimized, not as overwhelming software. The learning curve can be greatly reduced, in fact, you can learn and find a solution on your own without to read or to watch any tutorial. The problem is in missing pieces of very essential knowledge, in the approach and the way users are looking at digital images. What is the main problem that Photoshop users have The main problem is because most of the users are taking the wrong approach and cannot define the problem. If you cannot define the problem, then you cannot solve it, right? When we break things down you will see that everything is so simple, that

Automate Export With User Defined Export Presets in Lightroom

Image
Photoshop Lightroom is one great piece of software which makes image editing much faster and easier especially for photographers. Lightroom is a part of Photography program , it comes together with Photoshop. If there is something that you cannot do in Lightroom there is big brother Photoshop. Currently I am covering Photoshop actions on this blog and you can read more from here . Certain things can be successfully automated straightly from Lightroom. In this post I want to point to one of automation options which can make your life easier, process faster and allow you to skip the tedious task of defining export presets with each new export. That option you can find from File > Export with Preset > option which can be under default User Preset or any other folder created by the user (you). What are user export presets You can define export preset which is nothing more than set of instructions like: Export To : or where to save exported files (optionally you can choose folder

Photoshop Actions Mini Course (Part 4)

Image
We will continue our journey with Photoshop actions . In this post we will cover some limitations of the actions. While Photoshop allows you to do anything that you can imagine with digital images, actions have some limitations. Before we proceed, let me give you link to download action set file with solution for homework from lesson 3 . Just to remind you, I have asked you to record steps which will ensure that action won't fail regardless of the color mode and bit depth of the source file. It was an easy task because we already have step to flatten the image so your task was to add 2 additional Convert Mode steps at the beginning of action. You could do that using Insert Menu Item > Image > Mode > RGB Color and Insert Menu Item > Image > Mode > 8 Bits/Channel . What is actually complex with Photoshop actions It is not a number of steps. As we have seen in previous lessons, action can contain hundred of steps which are actually one or two commands duplic

Photoshop Actions Mini Course (Part 3)

We will continue our journey with Photoshop actions . In this post we will cover how to record the simple actions for batch processing and actions that everyone needs for everyday workflow. Before we proceed, let me give you link to download action set file with solution for homework from lesson 2. Just to remind you, I have asked you to record Free Transform command after Create Clipping Mask current layer step. About actions for batch processing Most of the time I am using simple actions with one or a few steps for batch processing. It can be various things from situation to situation: to crop images, to sharpen images, to apply some filter, to run the plugin, to delete hidden layers and so on. The last time I was using simple action in batch process was just before writing this tutorial to invert colors for 160 files with edges that I have prepared. There was only one step: Invert in my action and it saved me at least 30 minutes of time. Another thing I want to point out

Linked Smart Objects and Libraries Panel in Photoshop CC 2014

Image
Libraries panel is one of the coolest new features in the latest update for Photoshop CC 2014 . This panel is changing the game and it will change the way we work and the way we think about Photoshop. It is really amazing how much one panel and one feature can change things, make everything much easier and save tons of time, searches and frustrations. Creative Cloud and Photoshop users will celebrate the day when this feature is introduced and you can expect in upcoming weeks and months tons of tips on how to use this amazing new feature. However, in this post I want to give you a tip how to combine Libraries panel and another amazing feature recently introduced: Place Linked . Why to store Linked Smart Objects in Libraries There are three major reasons: File in Libraries panel can be updated with one click if you make changes to the original file. To reduce file size. Linked Smart objects can heavily reduce file size . You certainly want the flexibility to scale up and dow

Photoshop Actions Mini Course (Part 2)

We will continue our journey with Photoshop actions . In this post we will cover how to record and how to use very simple but very useful actions. As already mentioned in the previous post, actions do not have to be complex to be useful and to save your time. I will ask you to follow along with me and to practice simply because, at least from my experience, reading about and recording actions are two different things. What will make you happy is recording and using actions, not reading my blog post. What is so cool with simple Photoshop actions It is extremely easy to record simple Photoshop actions which can save you tons of time on the long run. You can protect yourself from mistakes and undesired results using the Snapshot feature and scripts for batch processing. There won't be any harm or damage along the way, even if you make some mistakes while exploring and learning about Photoshop actions. On the other hand, Photoshop actions will immediately pay back for each seco
