Hide Path Outline In Photoshop CS6

Image
Every time you draw shapes in Photoshop CS6 and any of shape tools is selected, path outline will be visible. To quickly hide outline and see result of drawing without destructive gray outline just Ctrl + click (try Cmd + click on Mac) on layer with shape. You can also use Ctrl/Cmd + H to hide outlines but in that case all extras like guides will be hidden too. This is my last quick tip for this year. Take care and Happy New 2013! Apply Filter to Editable Shape or Type Layer in Photoshop

Image
This is one of cool tips you may not use very often but it is really worth to know.  Photoshop allows you to apply any filter to vector based layers and to keep it editable so you can change and modify content non-destructively at any time even after saving and reopening document. Convert layer to Smart Object First step is to convert type or shape layer to Smart Object. I already mentioned how Smart Objects works and here is quick reminder: Photoshop will keep original layer data intact and what you see on Smart Object layer is copy (duplicate) of original with modification if you have applied any (like transformation or filter(s) applied). To convert layer(s) to Smart Object select layer(s) then right click (Cmd + click) and choose Convert to Smart Object. You can also use Filter > Convert for Smart Filters or Layer > Smart Objects > Convert to Smart Object commands available from menus. Apply filter After converting layer to Smart Object you can start playing around

Extract Images From Video Clips in Photoshop

Image
When it comes to extract images from video clip Photoshop have handy command for that job. Command is located under File > Import > Video Frames to Layers…  Next action is to navigate to and select video clip from which you want to extract images then click Load button at bottom of Load dialog. Choose video from which to extract image Import Video To Layers dialog will appear in which you want to use Selected Range Only and to select portion of video clip by moving slider below preview of video clip. Ensure that you have this option turned on and range on slider selected, because extracting entire clip can cost you some time and frustration. You will also get and feedback when you did not set things properly. Warning message that operation will produce a large document will appear, just click Cancel and try again. Warning dialog To select range first move slider to some point on timeline (slider below clip preview) till you see scene or frame to extract.

Rasterize and Merge All Layers Inside Group(s) in Photoshop

Image
There is one very handy command and shortcut to rasterize and merge all layers inside layer group(s) in Photoshop. This s in brackets means that you can select multiple groups of layers to rasterize every layer inside all groups and to merge everything to one single layer. Command Merge Group is available on right click (Cmd + click) on group of layers or from Layer > Merge Group when group of layers is selected. By the way you can use Ctrl/Cmd + E keyboard shortcut to achieve same goal. Merged layer will pick name of group or top most group when you use this command with multiple groups. To rasterize and merge content from multiple layer groups first select all groups then use same shortcut or command as for single group. Merge multiple groups using Ctrl/Cmd + E keyboard shortcut Merge layers in group(s) non-destructively (Stamp layers) If you want only to create merged layer with content of group(s) without to rasterize and merge layers, in fact layers will stay intact

Batch Rename Any Kind of Files in Adobe Bridge

Image
One of my favorite features in Adobe Bridge is to batch rename files. Bridge allows you to rename any kind of files including and MS Word documents (if you will ever need), but for this tutorial I will use photos what is most common task. Browse for files, reorder and select them First task in this procces is to find and display files you want to rename. Just to remind you on Show Items from Subfolders function if you have sub-folders. When you see all files you want to batch rename, reorder them as you want then select them. Select all files using Edit > Select All or selectively Ctrl/Cmd +  click and click on first file then Shift + click on last to select range of files. Reordering may be important because Sequence Number will be added to filenames in the same order files appears in selection. Later during batch renaming process you can not reorder files. Batch Rename With all files to rename selected go to Tools > Batch Rename (Ctrl/Cmd+ Shift + R) to open Batch Re

When, Why and How to Use Fade Command in Adobe Photoshop?

Image
Fade command is available from the Edit menu in Adobe Photoshop. This command is very useful whenever you are working directly with pixels on the image without to convert the layer to Smart Object and to work non-destructively . Note: you can not use most of the tools with the Smart Object layer . Why use Fade command Fade command allows you to change Opacity and blending mode after using the tool, adjustment or filter applied directly to pixels on the image. In other words, you can lower strength of applied adjustment or filter using Opacity slider. Another useful option ( not available after using some tools like Spot Healing Brush Tool, Burn Tool... ) is to change the way in which adjustment, filter or painting directly on image interacts with existing image pixels using the Mode drop-down list. In the Fade dialog you can lower the strength of applied filter/adjustment or to change how applied or painted adjustment/filter interacts with existing image pixels. How to use

One of features that I like most in Mini Bridge is to sort files, especially By Date Modified. To sort files in currently displayed folder click on Sort icon then choose option from drop-down list. Reference: Bridge Help / Mini Bridge Product used in this tutorial: Adobe Photoshop CS6

Load Paragraph and Character Styles in Photoshop CS6

One of new features in Photoshop CS6 are Character and Paragraph styles. In this quick tip I wont to point to Load Paragraph/Character Styles option from Paragraph Styles and Character Styles panel menus. Literally this options can save you tons of time because you can create templates with styles, give them meaningful names to easy find them and load that styles into any open document. Steps to create and load Paragraph and Character styles Create Paragraph and Character styles First step in this process is to create Paragraph and Character styles which you plan to reuse. You can do that in any open document or to create new blank document and use it as template for styles what is my suggestion. Create Paragraph and Character styles in Photoshop CS6 Save document with styles on your hard drive Second step is to save document with created styles from File > Save or Save As anywhere on your hard drive. You can even create new folder with name: Photoshop text st
